June 1 : The Day of the Popular Eye Brigham Young, Mormon Leader and founder of the religious centre in Salt Lake City, born this day in 1801. Celtic feast day of 'Ronan', monk, ninth century, believed to have escaped the Viking raids by travelling to Brittany from Cornwall, England. It is said that he died on a Maundy Thursday (See Mystical WWW Easter Special for more information on this day and festival) and was buried in accordance with the custom of locating a place of rest by being placed on a cart drawn by oxen (For more information on Animal folklore see Mystical WWW Mystic's Menagerie). Known also as a hermit, a religious festival, or pardon, occurs every six years at Locronan in the Nieve Forest. A statue marks the spot where it was said that a farmer's wife known as Keben, having unsuccessfully tried to seduce him, struck him as he was on the cart. One of the oxen horns fell to the ground in the turmoil.
Celtic feast day of 'Gwen Tierbron, fifth century, also known as 'White, also known as 'Candida'. Mother of Winwaloe (3 March). It has been suggested that Gwen was in fact a man, perhaps because it was said that Gwen had three breasts, which was believed to be the sign of a witch.

June 3 : The Day of Fluent Expression Celtic feast day of 'Kevin', hermit, fifth-sixth century, established an oratory, lived in the Wicklow Hills and Glendalough, Ireland where there was a monastery. Depicted as a man holding a blackbird's nest in his outstretched hands. Believed to have been able to work miracles. Associated with Cieran (9 September) and Moling (17 June). Died 618.

June 4 : The Day of Critical Expertise Eton College, Buckinghamshire, England : 'Speeches and Procession of Boats' on the River Thames. Giacomo Casanova, said to be the world's greatest lover. Died on this day in 1798. Celtic feast day of 'Petroc', monk, later hermit, sixth century, son of a Welsh king, instructed in Ireland. Travelled to Wales, and Cornwall. Established a monastery at Padstow which is named in honour of him, Petroc's Stowe where he was initially buried later being moved to Bodmin. Lived with twelve companions on Bodmin Moor. Petroc has been connected with the guardianship of wild animals. Associated with the salvation of the soul from eternal damnation, saving a stag from a hunt, and linked to the story of Jon Tregeagle (See Mystical WWW Mystic's Menagerie : Animals, Dog). Associated with Constantine (9 March), uncle of Gluvias (3 May), Conan (4 June) was a companion to Petroc. Celtic feast day of 'Breaca', nun, Irish, believed to have founded a church near Helston, Cornwall, England. Practised the religion according to the work of Brigid (1 February). Accompanied Germoe (24 June) to Cornwall, England.

Celtic feast day of 'Columcille', meaning 'dove of the church', also known as 'Columba' of royal Irish descent. Monk, sixth century, a disciple of Finnian of Moville (10 September) and Finnian of Clonard (12 December). Associated with Donan and his companions (17 April), visited by Comgall (11 May) at Iona. Columcille is believed to have travelled with Comgall to Inverness to meet with King Brude of the Picts. Established a monastery at Londonderry on a sacred druid site, an oak grove (See Mystical WWW Trees : Oak for more information on tree folklore). Travelled to Iona with twelve disciples in 563, and established a monastery. Seen as a poet, scribe, and joint protector of cattle together with Brigid (1 February). Born as Colum MacFhelin MacFergus on 7 December, 521 in Donegal (See Mystical WWW Mystical Time : Days of the Week - Thursday). Much was written of his life by Bede (27 May), Adomnan (23 September). Colman (18 February) referred to him as 'Father Columba'. Admired for his devout faith, wisdom and love of life. Also associated with Moluag (25 June), Brendan of Birr (29 November) and Drostan (11 July). The leaves of the plant 'St John's Wort' were often connected to Columcille, said to have been named after John the Evangelist (27 December), and John (6 May), who is believed to have held this plant to be extremely important within holistic practices. Associated with Oswald (5 August), Fintan Munnu (21 October) and a distant relation of Cumine (6 October). One of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland instructed by Finnian (12 September). 'That I might bless the Lord Who conserves all, Heaven with its countless bright orders, Land, strand and flood.'
