Yder
Brother of 'Gwyn of Neath' (See Gwyn of Neath).
Ydian
Little is known about this lady who was said to be a mistress of 'Gawain' (See Gawain) after he rescued her from being violated. Ultimately she tried to leave him and as a reprisal Gawain gave her to 'Druidan' (See Druidan).
Ysaive
Welsh tradition. Niece of 'Arthur' (See Arthur), wife of 'King Caradoc' (See Caradoc) who was a Knight of the Round Table. She was the only lady in the Queen's train who could wear 'the mantle of matrimonial fidelity' (See Mantle of Faithful Wives). She was beloved of 'Eliavres' the knight with magical powers.
Yspaddaden - Full name being 'Yspaddaden Pencawr' (Welsh) similar character to 'Balor' (See Balor). Known most commonly as 'Yspaddaden The Giant'.
According to legend he was a giant and father of 'Olwen' (See Olwen) who sets 'Culhwch' (See Culhwch) thirty-nine impossible tasks to complete before he can marry his daughter. Together with his companions, which includes 'Arthur' (See Arthur) in some legends, Culhwch inflicts wounds to Yspaddaden's knee, eye and stomach. Yspaddaden dies upon the marriage of his daughter.
Yvaine
aka 'Owain' (See Owain), 'Uwain', 'Knight of the Lion'. Son of 'Urien' (See Urien) and 'Morgan le Fay' (See Morgan le Fay). Cousin of 'Gawain' (See Gawain) who in many legends succeeds in persuading Owain to undertake many adventures, including rescuing a lion from a serpent, in so doing leaving his role as 'Guardian of the Magic Fountain', but securing a beast to aid him in his battles.
Widely popularised in the work of 'Chrétien de Troyes' (See Chrétien de Troyes) entitled 'Yvain', which follows the story of the 'Lady of the Fountain' (See Lady of the Fountain) in the 'Mabinogion' (See Mabinogion). It is thought that De Troyes developed the character of Owain and changes the name to 'Yvaine'. The Lady of the Fountain remained the Guardian of the Fountain by demanding that Owain replaced her husband, the 'Black Knight' (See Black Knight) who he had killed. Owain became her second husband.
