NESSIE STOP PRESS FOR MAY 98
TITLE: Hotelier claims close encounter with Nessie.
A Highland hotelier who claims to have heard Nessie several
times has come her closest yet to seeing the elusive creature. Catherine
Handley was on the patio of her hotel, The Clansman Hotel, when she
became aware of a man shouting about the monster. Looking out over the
loch she saw what she described as a very strange wake, unlike any boat.
Shouting to the hotel guests, a number of whom also saw the disturbance
in the water, she ran to get her camera to record what was happening.
She said: "As my hotel is situated at the side of Loch Ness, I know what
boat wakes look like". "We had seen the Jacobite Queen going up earlier".
This was different". "It was like the circles left by an oar when a boat
is being rowed, widening out in ripples to a distance of something like
50ft". "I did not see anything above the water, but experiences I have
had over the years have convinced me that there is something large in
the loch." The man whose cries alerted Mrs Handley and her son to the
latest incident - which occurred about 4.15pm on Friday (1st May) - was Alex
Crosbie of Inverness, who has been Nessie watching for more than thirty
years. He has claimed many sightings over the period and said that on
Friday he became aware of a major commontion in the water at the
entrance to the marina. He added: "I saw a big disturbance in the water
opposite the Clansman. I reckon whatever caused it must have been at
least 40ft long". "I did not see anything above the water on this
occasion". Mr Crosbie added "my biggest regret is that my video camera was in the car at the time".
It cannot go unsaid that many skeptics will think that Catherine Handley may just be trying to make sure she has a busy summer, but remember you can only believe your own senses. Read more about the Nessie legend and select HERE.
