Golden Plover

This bird has a religious significance as it is said that the golden plover contains the souls of all Jews who took part in the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. As a result the bird is seen to be a sad and wandering bird, being able to find no rest. The call of the golden plover is a melancholy one, and in Wales (UK) it is traditionally  believed to be a death omen.
