Crystals

In the 1980's crystals became even more widely used as amulets, talismans and are reputed to have healing, psychic and/or magical properties. Crystals have become popular even synonymous with the growth of what is known as The New Age Movement. There is no scientific evidence that they have any paranormal properties. It must be remembered though, that quartz is now used heavily as a means of measuring and regulating time (just take a look at digital watches). Early civilisations valued crystals for what is reported to have been protective properties against negative energy (disease, bad luck, evil and sorcery). Associated with mental and physical healing properties during the Middle Ages, European nobility wore crystals to ward off the Plague. They were also sometimes ground into powder and administered as a medicine for a variety of disorders.
In some forms of healing therapy crystals are placed in patterns on the body's Chakra points and energy meridians. Crystals are also used in divination and dowsing. They are also reported to be used within the circle of alternative medical treatments of animals and humans, which brings into discussion if it is just purely a psychosomatic (all in the mind) occurence or something that science has yet to fully explain.
Crystal believers offer the argument that certain stones, such as clear quartz, can be programmed. Individuals have over the years claimed they can channel entities, stating the purpose of the crystal renaissance is for spiritual awareness and help towards healing.
