The wood is situated in the South Downs in West Sussex, England. A hollow Oak Tree stands sentry to the entrance of the wood and within are a series of clearings containing ruins of old cottages. In its confines is a strange crater (date unknown along with its cause), within which nothing grows although some believe that this crater was only caused by a wartime bomb. In truth no one seems to know the real reason. (Unless you know better?)

People and animals are also reported to have gone missing in the wood, including a rector of Clapham Church who disappeared without trace in 1979. It has been linked many times with Occult activities although there has been no real sumstantiated documented proof.
