LAPWING :
In Scotland (UK) it is traditionally believed that the lapwing carries the soul of men doomed never to rest after death. The call of the lapwing is also believed to actually be the word 'bewitched' constantly repeated and so to hear it is an ill omen.

LARK :
The lark is best known perhaps for having a sweet song call, hence why it was caught and sold across Europe (the practice of which is now banned by law). One of the most grotesque and horrific facts associated with the lark, or in fact with any bird or animal, is that the voice of the lark was said to be improved if a red hot needle pierced its eyes, making it blind! It is traditionally believed in Scotland (UK) that if you listen carefully the call of the lark can be broken down into words. Some also once believed that to eat three lark eggs at breakfast on a Sunday before the church bells rang would help improve the tone of your singing voice.
