QUESTING BEAST
This mythological animal appears in British and French folklore. In both the beast is
depicted as having a serpent's head, a leopard's body and the hooves of a deer. It was
also known as the 'Beast Glatisant' and was said to produce a very frightening sound
from it's stomach. The howls and growls of thirty pairs of hounds were said to be heard
by Arthur, King of Britain, when he came upon it not long after his coronation. The
creature was chased relentlessly by Pellinore, the foremost knight at Arthur's table and
then upon his death by Palomides, the Saracen knight .

In French folklore the animal is
said to be the result of a woman torn apart by hounds.
